Smile Clayton Melbourne

Does anyone know what the area of Clayton in Melbourne is like? We are thinking of moving out to Oz and my husband would be working in Clayton. Is it a nice area, are the primary schools any good, that kind of thing? If not where would be a good family orientated place to look within about 20 miles?
Also, my son suffers with asthma and eczema and my husband gets hayfever - I've read some of the threads about these and it doesn't sound too good.
I'd be grateful for any advice that anyone can offer!

I've just got a job in Clayton - it is about 30 minutes inland. It depends what you are looking for. I would avoid Springvale and Noble Park (a bit rough) and also Dandenong. If you go to www.street-directory.com.au you can see all surrounding suburbs and road infrastructure. Aspendale gardens is nice - what is your budget and what sort of house are you hoping to get ?

Clayton is very close to the Monash Freeway so you could live anywhere really and hubby would not have to travel for too long, although I think the Freeway can be a bit of a bottleneck. We live in Skye which is about 30 mins south from Clayton and just 10 minutes inland. We are also very close to the Peninsula and all it's attractions and also Phillip Island.

Everywhere out here, except for the city , is family orientated. Pubs out this way are generally for 18 - 25 yr old bracket only. Most socialising is done with the kids in tow !! Don't think I would want to live in Clayton - come here for something different, from what I've seen (but that is not much) clayton is possibly more industrial than residential. head east of claytonyou will have lovely countryside, West the coast, and south, a mix of both. North - the city - confused - you will be !!

I'm heading to Aspendale Gardens with a bit of luck and a following wind.
