Hi, I am moving to North Brisbane later this year and am looking at Clayfield and Ascot. I get the impression more/bigger houses to rent in Clayfield. Also trying to work out which is better primary school. Ascot state school or Eagle Junction state school.
Any info on Clayfield & Ascot appreciated, especially regarding schools, houses

don't really know a great deal about them except they are both regarded as prestigious suburbs. ascot is one of the most expensive/prestigious suburbs in brisbane. usually a follow on from this is good schools locally, though i think you will find the majority of people from these suburbs send their kids private. a couple of friends of mine went to clayfield college and really rated it, not sure what year that starts at.
cheers

Both very nice. In some areas of Clayfield there are a lot of units. Both excellent schools, but you absolutely must be in the catchment to get in (well, if not you can try the waiting list). The only thing I would say about Eagle Junction is that its very big for a primary - 750 kids. It is a great school though (I was doing prac teaching there last week). Ascot SS is very highly regarded and not nearly as big. Wilston State School is also widely known to be a good one.

Clayfield college is Prep to Year 12, but the boys can only go Prep to Year 5, girls the whole way through. Its at least $10K per year for prep and goes up from there so quite pricey.

Basically, if you can afford it, go for it. Ascot and Eagle Junction are very highly regarded; though its not like London here; there are many great schools and generally what people do is go for state schools for primary and private for high (i'm an aussie who's lived in London for 6 years)

My sister lives in Ascot amd if the neighbourhood's anything like her it's full of stuck up bitches who look down their noses on anyone not up to their social standards.

I was in Clayfield yesterday and while the place appeared to be a bit livelier than the suburb where we live, it didn't strike me as somewhere particularly flash or somewhere that I'd be in a hurry to move to.
That's the thing about this place - a crummy house in a general run of the mill i.e rundown, suburb within half an hour of the 'City' will set you back a fortune.
Why would anyone want to pay over the odds to live in a shack no matter how trendy the place is perceived to be?
Thank you Mr Hooker

CLayfield is over-rated. Good private school there though.
Ascot is very swish. Pricey though!
