Default Classroom assistant in Melbourne

Hi everyone,
I wonder if anyone could help me out we are moving to Melbourne later this year on a P.R visa.
I have an N.C in childcare with 27 years experience and also at present been a registered childminder for the past year. When we move to Melbourne I would like to work in a school as a classroom assistant and was wondering if there are any jobs in this area and what qualifications specifically needed that I could maybe do here to give me a heads up when I come over.
Any pointers would be much appreciated...

Yes there certainly are jobs in this area, I have friends who do this job and at my kids school there are people working in this field.

I don't know the pay rates or how easy it is to find work.

Wouldn't be choosing it as a career option - it's not at all like the para professional role in UK. Usually unskilled, short term, lowly paid positions in high demand from mums who want school working hours while their kids are little. You might try volunteering in a few schools so they get to know you in case they have a vacancy one day. All you usually need (some positions do need integration aide training) is a first aid certificate and a clean police record.
