The Classic Returns!!!
Just been reading about the classic Raleigh Chopper which is making a comeback for only 200 quid !! bargain, I feel like goin out and buying one just for the nostalgia trip, but would probably look like a right ars@h@le riding down the road on one being 36 yrs old now , as I remember they were brill for wheelies, you could just sit back and wheely for ages, and it was also a great bike for jumping off ramps, though I did come a cropper sometimes, memories, memories, memories
ps wheres the bloody gear shifter gone!!!!!!
Anyone else got fond memories of their chopper

I had the follow up Raleigh Grifter - much heavy than the Chopper but far more "street cred"
You couldn't hold a wheely long on a Grifter as it was that heavy - but definately the fore runner of the modern mountain bike.
Oh the memories of the late 70s and early '80s - can't beat 'em.

Yeah! I had a MK II Chopper in the early seventies!
And not trying to sound rude, but I had a purple chopper!
The modern one has the gear shift on the handlebars, due to modern safety standards. Its also got a light weight alloy frame as opposed to the original steel frame that weighed about four ton!!
Do you remember that you could take a mate for a "backie" when he could sit on the parcel rack whilst holding on to the seat "sissy bar".

Apparently............the previous position of the gear shift is far to dangerous for the poor little kiddies of today, so has been placed on the handlebars so two hand can remain in control at all times
They dont no what there missing.........like making a bungee cord only three feet (1 meter) long....ah bless the safety men..

Oh and another thing, the original price of the Chopper on it's release was £32.00, I wonder how much that would be in todays money?
If anyone is interested the guy who initiated the concept of the Chopper was a guy called Tom Karen, who also worked on that other seventies icon the Bond Bug!
