I don't like mass produced poultry. Bernard Matthews equivalents. I won't buy chicken from anyone who also makes chicken nuggets!! Odd, yes I know it is :)

One thing I dont like is those pressed turkey buffe breast things... I particuarly dislike those frozen Turkey rolls.

Are Grain fed, free range turkeys at twice the price I'm paying necessarily twice as good... thats a question I ask myself. What do you or others think ?

I'm actually orf to order ours in about 1/2 an hour.

Not odd at all - very sensible in fact. Getting my turkey from this lot

http://www.enviroganic.com.au/index2.html

but don't think they supply queensland

On a similar theme - I always used to make my own cranberry sauce. I now know you can't get fresh cranberries here for some reason, but haven't had any luck getting frozen ones either. Anyone know if anyone has them? And if the company happens to also supply KFC, I'll compromise - just this once, I'm desperate:rofl:

I don't concern myself with where my turkey cones from as it is always cooked and provided by a good English family who are good at these sorts of things. They are your original and stereotypical English migrating family complete with Harrod's bags.
Left to my own devices I would cook a large ham or duck.

I got my frozen cranberries from Coles and Woolworths this year, the company name is Creative Gourmet, used them to make Nigella Lawson's mincemeat, with Port and Brandy, never gonna buy mincemeat ever again, just make this its fab.:thumbup:

We always bought organic in the UK & I have to say I was getting really despondent last week looking at turkeys. Why on earth do they need to have loads of other ingredients added to them including MSG  Even the free range one had tons of c**p added. Why??

I am happy to say I now have a frozen free range organic turkey in my freezer which is just turkey  although a flippin expensive one. By pure chance we spotted an organic shop/cafe yesterday that is unfortunately closing down this week but they do online deliveries so will give them a go for more stuff.

Thanks andreak - tried woolworths but not coles yet - glad to know they are available in Oz. Got funny looks last year when I asked for fresh cranberries!

Woolies (don't know about Coles) started getting fresh turkeys in late last week. You shouldn't have a problem finding them now.

According to one report about one-in-10 Turkey sales is forecast to be organic.

Woolworths is estimating free-range turkeys will cost $9.90/kg, organic $16.98/kg and standard $9/kg.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/money/...-1225964160501

Tesco are showing them at £15.00 for a 4-5kg bird. Substantially cheaper.

But the numbers of Turkeys ??

A Woolworths spokeswoman said that it would be stocking 11,000 to 12,000 free-range turkeys and around 4000 organic birds.

whilst... Bernard Matthews Farms who supply Tesco, are quoted as "farming nearly 7 million turkeys each year" and they only have 40% of the British market.
