Christmas Tree?
Just wondering - do people in aus bother with christmas trees? or do you have decorated palm trees? and do people bother with snow spray, glittered pine cones etc?

Yep we have xmas trees, the same as uk, and baubels, decs , tinsel, fairy lights. AND thats just what we erect on roof of the house !

Re: Christmas Tree?
lol, that sounds ace. It was just an off thought I had. Thinking surely you should have something more tropical - like a parrot at the top of the tree instead of a fairy . . .

The go here, for many many aussies, is outside decs, similar to all the houses in films like, home alone.

Re: Christmas Tree?
Christmas is more of a big deal but less on the commercial side I think. Maybe because you can spend the holidays in the pool, drink some beer, go out and so on there is less pressure to stock up the house with a ton of crappy fat food and bunker down for the cold winter nights.
As Timber said, xmas light displays are awesome.

Re: Christmas Tree?
suppose i am a bit mad though lol.
that has to be a fab christmas day - chilling in the pool, having a barbie and some drinks. . . . you can't even do that in summer here (especially last summer - blink and you missed it)

Re: Christmas Tree?
Christmas is def a big deal here although found it strange putting up a tree in 30 degrees.
It is a lot less commercial and i've found the Kids christmas lists shorter as they're not bombarded by adverts all the time for toys.

Yes just the same trees/decorations etc that you have in the UK - to be honest I think thats what I find really weird - all the scenes depicting snow and ice when quite obviously its SUMMER here!

Re: Christmas Tree?
lol, i can imagine.
I feel bad knowing that if I go my kids won't enjoy snow on xmas day . . . but I can't remember the last time we had any decent snow anyhow! seems a waste to stay here for the hope of snow!

Re: Christmas Tree?
I think, its the romanticism of snow frost and crispy xmas mornings, that makes xmas so enviable for aussies. Im sure we all would love it to snowing on xmas day, least i would

I agree, so much so I haven't got a clue what to buy for my kids. I will be buying for buyings sake.

Re: Christmas Tree?
But although I prefer having Christmas in the sunshine, I still can't quite get into the Christmas spirit - maybe next year
