I don't know if its just my sentimental reminiscing but Christams's used to have the cold weather, the crisp frosts in the morning etc but I havn't seen that for a few years. Its just another grey day in the calander. Don't get me wrong I love all the other aspects of Christmas but the weather aspects of it now are just grey and dull. So for me I think that Christmas on the beach with sun will make a refreshing change.

Though I think I will still want to keep all the other traditions alive.

I am really looking forward to our first christmas in Oz, my parents and my brother are here for 6 weeks, we only arrived here at the end of may this year, so it will be 6 months since Ive seen them. Hopefully their cases will be full of all the things they know I miss,

I will still do the xmas dinner with all the trimmings though,
Oh and Santa a parent visa for my mum and dad would be nice, I have been a good girl I promise!!!!

Hi Badgers

Re: Christmas Time

I have lived in Florida for 8 years now and Xmas here is crap! The yanks only give you ONE day off....never heard of Boxing Day! So they have a huge run up to it (even as I write there are Xmas decorations and gifts in the store up the street) and all for one day. And you can't drink and enjoy yourself much cos you know you have to go to work the next day. Although I loath the cold it still feels really weird hearing all the Xmas carols when you are shopping in your shorts and all the clothes shops are selling jumpers and coats - hello? Its 80 degrees plus outside! Mad!

This may sound weird but i have found so far that I don't find it too difficult getting used to Xmas in the summer but I found it really odd NOT having Xmas in the winter.
Here in the South Island in Winter you get some lovely crisp frosty mornings and I kept feeling all xmasy! I had just about managed to convince my body clock that Xmas wasn't going to happen when Hubbys works held a mid-winter Xmas dinner (turkey, xmas pud etc) which confused things all over again!!!

Funny that... well we celebrate Christmas in the winter because it replaced a pagan festival to punctuate the cold winter months... so maybe you need the same sort of thing to lift your spirits in the Kiwi winter. Two Christmases sounds good, as long as I get loads of prezzies and don't have to see the annoying relatives!!!
