Watch the kids faces melt my heart ...

Champagne BBQ breakfast early doors ...

Open half the prezzies ...

Mullaloo beach with the eski, "flag" & friends ...

Bit of body boarding ...

Back to the eski ...

Return home mid-afternoon for more Dom Pom, present unwrapping, pool frivolity & full Chrimbo dinner!!!

Sounds s**t.

You do know that you've got 24 hours in a day?

Hi,

Its our first Christmas in Perth too! We are just planning on a BBQ and plenty of vino with a mandatory phone home!

Haven't sent any prezzies home this year because I think we have missed the post for sending parcels?! probably send small bits back next year though.

It will be our first Xmas here (Perth) and are curious to how we will feel when the day comes.!
Do many of you still send presents back to the UK for your friends and family?? if so is it expensive to post them.
This year we have decided to not bother sending presents, but may consider it next year as long as we are still here :D
Do you all still have the traditional Xmas dinner, or is it BBQ time?

We really do want to get into the christmas spirit but can't help feeling it won't be the same, warm weather and all that.
Might even pop down to Cottesloe Beach with the TV station and give everyone back home a wave on Xmas day

Well we have got 2 other families from UK and Melbourne staying with us this Xmas, as well as the families that we have already met here who will probably be coming over for an Xmas bash, so we are going to have a pretty full house!

As for posting presents we are going to try to send either money or vouchers for people, far easier and quicker to post, and no danger of breakage!

We attempted a full Xmas dinner last year, but we got quarter of the way through the meal and all had to jump in the pool, it was way too hot to eat (mind you, we were in a crappy rental with no air con and no ceiling fans, the house we are in now is set on a very breezy hillside and has ceiling fans, so is much cooler!), so this year I reckon we are just going to go down Maroochydore beach and have a small BBQ when we get home.

I have already told my parents that I don't care how hot it is, all the Xmas decorations are going up and we are going to have a PROPER Xmas, even if we have to put the fans on full power to pretend it's cold! With the heat it's not quite the same, but it's still pretty amazing sitting on the beach on Xmas day! Plus we get it 9-10 hours before UK does...Always that to consider ;)

Regards,

Jamie

You know it took me 9 years to get used to NOT having a hot christmas living in England. Everytime summer came if felt like Christmas. We used to have roast lamb every year there.

Gutted after 13 years in Uk still no white xmas. This will probably be my last xmas here so I am going mad on making it the most english xmas possible.

i don't think i have ever experienced a white Christmas in England either...mostly snows in Feb these days..not much of it nowadays. So the myth of snow at Xmas in the UK is pretty much the same as the 'hype' of living in OZ!!

After speaking to loads of people about what they get up to at Xmas..seems like everyone goes down to the beach in the morning and gets arse-holed!!

Depends on the weather for us!..but we do plan on having a jolly good time

We spent last Xmas with 2 other expat families, we shared the cost and the cooking of traditional dinner.
This year my parents will be here so we have booked for christmas dinner at the Joondalup golf resort then its back home for more  in the garden.

Most of all, I miss family more than ever at that time of year. All getting together, having a full roast lunch and then vegetating in front of a James Bond movie/Only Fools and Horses!

They don't seem to do the Bond movie anymore!

I love Christmas overhere, its the fact it's 'high' summer, the old Dickensian UK thing never worked for me, it never actually snowed, and was often grey and drizzly.

I also like the fact that its conducive to families, over here, it coincides with summer hols, a new school year, long evenings. Our village sits out on the green outside the community green, and sings carols by candlelight, fire brigade in attendance- we also wheel the old dears in from the old people's home opposite and they sit on a verandah.

There's a baritone who turns up every year to lead the singing, I did a bit too, some people reckoned I could give him a good run for his money(!)

cheers
