Child car seats - ISOFIX in Oz?
Hi all,
I know that "normal" UK child car seats don't meet Australian standards but from Feb 06 all cars in UK will have Isofix as it is safer. We have an ISOFIX carseat for our toddler and I just wondered if it was worth bringing to Australia (we also have a 2 month old so if we can we would get a good few years out of it) and whether Isofix was available in Australian cars (I know it would only be in newer models if at all).

Thanks
Michelle

Don't really know but I'm interested to know myself
I imagine it would be available though - many of the cars sold there are the same models as you'll find here...

added June 2005
Standards Australia has tightened the Australian Standard® for child restraints following concerns around the need to improve the safety of children during a side impact collision.
The revised Australian Standard® for child restraints, AS/NZS 1754 Child restraints for use in motor vehicles, was published in November 2004 and includes the requirements for more rigorous side impact testing.
The revised Australian Standard® for child restraints can be purchased from our web shop at: www.standards.com.au or call 1300 65 46 46.
The two new systems likely to be approved for the new Australian standard are the European ISOfix system, which clips the child seat rigidly in place via snap connectors at the base of the seat - particularly useful in side impacts - and a more flexible US "Latch" tether system. Both require top tether straps to further control child seat movement.

Re: Child car seats - ISOFIX in Oz?
All the newer cars I have seen recently in Oz have ISOfix. It's pretty much industry standard now
