Is child benefit(or equivalant ) payable to people on a 457 temporary visa?

Can't always get this site to work at the moment but look at www.centrelink.gov.au. They administer family allowance, the equivalent of UK child benefit.
I think it's means tested (tapering off for higher earners) so most get something. Maximum for one child is $99 per fortnight. You need to register with Centrelink as soon as you arrive to start getting it. Not sure if it applies on your visa class but it is available to all permanent residents, migrants, etc. It's not one of those welfare benefits you're not allowed to claim in the first 2 years.
