Julie,
if you are posting from british expats, scroll to the bottom of the screen, on the left hand side there is a box called forum rules.
click on smilies and it tells you what to do.
Clicking on the smilies when posting doesn't work for me so use the longhand eg (colon uppercase D)

It is assessed on income though, rather than a universal benefit.

Shaun,,,

Would be nice huh? But as soon as your kid leaves the country you have to tell the nice Child Benefit people BUT!!! If you leave the kid behind, someone else can claim it for you, send it to you and then you will be MEGA rich if it does go to AUD3 to the squid

Not 100% accurate. True that you still have to wait 2 years.

But there are 2 parts - imaginatively called Part A and Part B.

Part A is income tested - Part B is not. But don't get too excited though it's
a pitance!

Regards, AndyH.

Andrew

You don't have to wait two years for family tax benefit A and B.

Yes, you're right Vicki - I was confusing it with 'unemployment benefit'. Anna (my
better half) is the real expert in these benefits and she told me we started claiming
Part B after our eldest was born - only 1 year after arriving in Australia.

However, Part B only applies to 1 child (ie, it doesn't increase with the number of
children you have).

Thanks, AndyH.
