for Brisbane, we stayed here both on our reccie trip and for a few days while we sorted out our rental when we finally moved over

its about 20 mins south of Brisbane CBD but only 5 minutes from both north/south motorways (M1 and M3)

What range would you determine cheap? for decent accomodation ie self contained one bed apartment (I would expect this is what you are after).

A backpackers hostel/lodge. Often they will have single or double rooms as well as the lower priced dorms. Also they are usually not far from entertainment and shopping districts and you can buy and cook your own food. Just be sure to label your stuff and be aware that though 99% of your fellow guests will be fine, some petty thiefs do also travel long haul! Ask manager to place your valuable documents in the safe. Carry minimum cash.

Check this link out:

Each backpackers (or other accomodation) you stay in should have info about tourist attractions etc or know where to direct you to find out. Each state has it's own tourist centres and websites for info:
