Hi all,

I am looking to get sponsored to come to Oz on a temporary visa. We are planning to get married just before flying out (if all goes well). I figure it will be far too confusing to try and get visas done in a different name when I am not that person yet, so does anyone know, can you get the name changed on your UK passport while in OZ?
How about getting a new one if it runs out?

Don't know about Oz but having just got married i know that its not a case of changing the name on your passport- but of applying for a new one in your new name.

You basically go through the same process as normal and send them a copy of your marriage cert to go with your application.

And you can do this while in Oz?

Don't see why not as you will just be sending documentation ie marriage certificate, passport and new photos....you might have to keep friendly with some in Blighty to sign your photos though.

What about a big marker pen? ...Those dolts at immigration will never know the difference.

You apply for a new passport in your married name from the UK High Commission in Canberra.

Hi,

I did mine at British High Commission (look on their website for forms) after we got married last year.It cost $185 + $15 courier charge to deliver it back to you.

If you've not already got your visa it's really easy to do it before hand. You just submit a change of circumstances for to your CO advising when you will be getting married and that you are changing your name and what your new passport number is.

you can get your passport changed here 2 or 3 months in advance of your wedding and your celebrant completes a form that you submit along with your application.
