Default Change IE visa to PR sponsered?

Arrived in Oz recently on 4yr 457IE with wife and family. Given the changing nature of business visas and their complexity, we are anxious to ensure that we can gain PR eventually.

My mother in law will obtain her PR visa in 18 months on the basis of a de facto relationahip. Is she able to sponser my wife and us as family members on a family visa?

I have been told that someone on a PR visa cannot sponser for 2 years is this right?

Also, will we be able to lodge such an application without jeapordising our current visa situation.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello Ben.

There are no changes in the pipeline to the strategy that takes you to permanent residency as the holder of a 457-IE visa, and in fact you have an "easier" option as well as the 845/846 Established Business Visa from 01/03/2003 - the 892 State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner Visa.

More info on this 892 Visa is here:

And your mother in law can't sponsor you for a visa.

Best regards.
