Default Certify Nim-help!

Hello,

Have just been sent our NIM by our celebrant in OZ and it states that we have to have it authorised/witnessed/certified copies signed by an Austrailian JofP or something similiar.

Does anyone have any ides who and how we can get this done? As far as im aware we have to sign it in front of them and can not think of how to get this done.

I may be having a blonde moment, so excuse me if I am, but all feedback will be gratefully read!!

Many Thanks. Liz.

Our friends got theirs sent to the UK and got a solicitor here to certify documents. She's from Ireland he's Australian. She had no problems when she sent hers to Australia House and now gets married in June!

Hi Liz,
We have a letter from our marriage celebrant stating that we have booked and paid for a wedding to be conducted later this year. We will be sending this letter with our prospective marriage visa application and from what I understand this is all we need to do for now. We will fill out the NIM when fiance arrives in Oz, if however we planned on getting married in less than a months time span of him arriving here then we would need to have NIM witnessed by an employee at the Oz Consulate in London and then have fiance to send it back to Oz and me then sign it in front of the celebrant so she can lodge it in time for the wedding. Hope this makes sense.... my brain is on overload worrying about this visa at the moment *lol*

Thanks for the help!

I have figured out what I should have done now though. Our application is a bit different as my Aussie fiance is here in the UK with me on a working visa and we are going back to OZ together in October when his visa runs out.
We have booked the wedding and the celebrant sent us the NOIM form which I had to get certified by a Notary of the Public. This took forever to track down one in our area. They are very difficult to find and cost a bomb!! Ours charged £70.50!! £60 for him and £10.50 for Mr Gordon Brown!! We ahve filled this out and I now have to get it copied (certified) and we can then send this back to the Celebrant in OZ who will then send us a letter to go with our certified copy of the NOIM!!!!
I totally understand about having your brain frazzled!!

Let us nkow how you get on.

Liz.

Hi,

I know link is for visitors to Oz who want to marry there but it's says that a NOIM form can be signed a normal solicitor.
Have a look;

Hi!!

I did read that, but I took it to meaning that a solicitors would be able to help find a Notary....

The "Notice Of Intended Marriage" form must be signed in the presence of and witnessed by either:

a UK Notary Public (lists of these can be found in the Yellow Pages phone book under "Notaries" or "Notaries Public" or by contacting your nearest UK solicitor's office);
or
an Australian Consular Officer at the Australian High Commission in London

??

IMHO - You were ripped off !

here is a link to Find A Notary

Here is a link to a firm in Bristol, found at random, and they charge £5.00 http://www.bris.ac.uk/Depts/Secretar...riespublic.htm

I had something done when I was in UK, and paid £11.75

A Notary is a qualified lawyer and is primarily concerned with the preparation and authentication of documents for use abroad. Notaries are widely recognised internationally although, for historical reasons, they play a lesser role in United Kingdom domestic matters.

An Australian JP is not qualified, and normally signs things in a voluntary capacity.
