We are due to move in July OH a teacher and Im a carpenter. Im aware that things have been slower over the last year or so have things improved any? Going to be living Gold Coast area but would be willing to travel to Brisbane.

The Trade situation in the Gold Coast is absolutely stuffed. Over supply of tradies beyond belief. Just look for a labouring job anywhere in Brisbane and Queensland and use your contacts through that to help you set up work on the GC.
