Careers Advice
Hi there
I'm wondering if anyone could offer some advice.
I have only been here in Melbourne for 3 months now and am considering studying part-time or open learning for a degree in either Social Work or Community Development. I have 13 years experience working with vulnerable children and young people and various related qualifications but not to degree level.
It has been my dream to study for a degree for many years now but somehow other choices ended up being my priority. I often see jobs I am interested in and know I would be able to do however I do not have the pre-requisite degree.
I'm hoping to secure a couple of childcare days a week for my youngest child and this will allow me to either study at uni or home.
I have a number of questions:-
Is there anywhere I can go locally to discuss my career options? Preferably free advice!
What are the chances of a prospective employer in these fields (Community/Social Work) helping with study costs?
Are there any universities particularly good with their open learning or any to avoid?
As a PR visa holder, would I pay citizen fees or overseas fees?
Thanks in advance for any info you can offer.
Angela

Here's a god site for telling you what courses are available in each state for the chosen profession. http://www.myfuture.edu.au/The%20Fac...anzsco=272511A
If you have quals then arrange to see the course leader to chat about Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and ask them about career prospects. I guess the course will involve a placement or two. http://www.future.swinburne.edu.au/p...rpl/higher-ed/
