Default Car window tinting.. essential?

Hi all

Just sorting out a second hand car in Perth;the dealer tells me that it doesn't have tinted windows and that "over here it is almost a necessity" to have them. What do you reckon - is it essential? He's also quoting from $433 to $539 to have it done. Anyone think/know if that's a reasonable price?

Cheers

It must do something....if I have my window open a bit, I can really feel the sun on me where it isnt going through the tint.

Yes, you need it done. Although, I think I would tell the dealer to either chuck it in the price of the car or you'll be looking for one with already tinted windows.

It is a necessity. When you have owned a car with tinting and then go back to one that hasn't then you'll know what I mean........

Price is a bit high. I reckon you should pay no more than $350.

I haven't bothered with mine, but then I haven't spent a summer here. You can get it done later, for a better price tho.

Dealers charge about $500, but window tinting specialists charge from $99.

I got a quote for mine about 2 years ago, for $249, but bargained them down to $199 for the same specs.

I just haven't had it done yet though. I will get around to it one day, especially if I need to drive down to Sydney, where it gets hotter in the car.

When I lived in Sydney, I would not have survived without it.

Yep get it done, it's a good few degrees cooler. Sounds like a bit of a scam from the dealer though....don't forget that haggling is the go here.

Down in Sydney, I had to park the car in the open all the time, so it got very hot. Also commute times were very long for me, 90-120 minutes each way to work.

Up here, I normally park undercover, and if I do go to the CBD it is under an hour for almost the same distance, at the same rush hour times.

While in the car, once it cools down, the air con keeps it cool. Consequently, I dont feel much "need" for tinted windows, although I will get around to it one day.

But... my right arm is darker than my left, due to the sun coming through the drivers window and giving my right arm a tan. But I also recall that happening on a trip to Cornwall once, many years ago.

If you've got air-cond it's not a necessity. If you want to get it done, don't get it done by the dealers as they bring a tinter in and then stick a massive mark-up on it. You can check out a few tinters in the yellow pages and get it done yourself if you really want to.

I got the local Tint-a-Car to do mine, $350 all in.

Really good job so can't complain, the temp difference is very noticeable and at least no one can see when I'm driving in the nude.
