Car Seats Again....

From: Currently in Redmond, Washington, returning to Sydney 2013!!

A recent thread on this subject has left me a bit confused - can anyone help?
We're moving to Sydney in a couple of weeks and were planning to take our car seats with us but recent posts have suggested that they won't be suitable (especially the extract from the Bubhub website). If I understand things properly Australian child restraints seem in incorporate some sort of anchor which fastens to the parcel shelf ????
We're planning to hire and buy a car with 3 rows of seating (as we have 3 young children and are expecting number four). So how does this extra anchor work when there's no parcel shelf behind the seat?
The car seats we have are all new and use just the seat belt to secure the child into the seat (so the seats are basically booster seats), are they still not acceptable?
I hope someone can help,
Thanks,
Sam.

.. or is there a possibility to lease/rent seats from insurance companies? We have used to do that: lease it from the insurance company here and return it and get a new one once the child outgrows the old one.

We took our Britax car seat out to Oz in 2003.
We took it on the aircraft with us, to be fixted onto the seat (bulk head) this worked for us really well because like most little ones they like the sound of an engine and their good old car seat. And when we arrived at Brisbane it fitted into my Cousins car no prob's.

Hubby was a Police Officer in the UK and now is a P.O in Oz

Hi there, has anyone got a description of this child anchor thing and how exactly does it work, we are shipping our car and our parcel shelf is full of speakers, should we get a blank one and fit that and move our speakers?

Here's an image of it:
from http://www.actsinc.org/83199.cfm
I just looked at the anchor point on my car, and it is on the parcel shelf, but it does seem surprisingly solid, more so than the car itself
). We have just got the one point in the centre, but extra ones can be fitted if needed.
Here in QLD the Queensland Ambulance Service and Kidsafe* both have baby capsule/child restraint hire schemes
http://www.greenweb.com.au/kidsafe/h...estraints.html
And from that I just learned something new -
Ours was fitted free when we bought it.
FYI
An adult seat belt can be used when the child reaches 32 kg.

Kidsafe will check child restraints free of charge and fit restraints at a cost of $10.00. Fitters currently need to obtain a certificate from the Vehicle Modification Branch

I had booked with the QAS but had to cancel as they could not alter the booking (at all, in any of the fitting centres around Brisbane) ... luckily KidSafe (located behind the Royal Brisbane hospital) squeezed us into a full schedule at very short notice (they seem to plan for such situations).
So, anyone sprogged-up, make the booking early and hope the arrives on time! Our anchor point is in the middle of the rear "parcel" shelf by the way.
Not that you'd wanna put parcels up there ... especially not chocolate ... mmmmm, chocolate ... Happy Easter all

Gone are the days when you could put a nipper in a box on the back seat with Mum stagging on.
Hopefully I can get one for the ute as well. It doesn't have a parcel shelf though.
We are going to have to get a baby seat for our baby. The Chief of Staff was buying all her giggle suits from Target and so I left her to it, and clocked all the bassinets, boosters, car suits, prams, strollers, hybrids. I rejoined my wife a tad more enlightened, but with a bloody big headache.
