Default Car purchase and insurance

Does anyone know if there's anything to stop someone buying and insuring a car in Australia whilst on a visitors visa or ETA?

Thanks.

I can't think of any reason. The compulsory third party insurance is part of the registration but it might be a bit more difficult to get comprehensive. Lots of folk apparently buy a van to drive around the place then sell it afterwards (if it is still recognisable).

A friend of mine spent £1000 on a camper van and the same making it road worthy on a tourist visa a few years ago. Even managed to sell it for a profit 3 months later.
