Re: cane furniture
I had a load of cane furniture in my container and a lot of very old wooden furniture passed down through the family. Had no problems at all when it arrived in Brisbane.
Our shippers pointed out loads of things they said would not be allowed to be taken (including the cane/wicker and a professionally done taxidermy item. Good job I didn't listen to the shippers as we would now be without all our family heirlooms and our nice modern cane furniture.
I emailed AQIS about specific items and they were very helpful, responded promptly and of course we declared all items of 'interest' to AQIS on the shippers forms.
If you're not sure, email AQIS otherwise most info can be found on a search on their website.

Link to AQIS website search engine:

we bought cane, wicker, pine, animal skin lamps etc. and had no problems. A friend who came a couple of weeks after us had a problem with an animal skin lamp, she told AQIS that their friend had bought one in, they let hers through no probs after that.
