canberra in winter

Can any Canberra residents tell me what it is like in the winter? I understand it gets cold, but is it a miserable winter? And how long does it take to get to the snow from there?

Canberra is well known for being cold in winter and stinking hot in summer. Good news is that most houses have some kind of central heating so winters aren't that bad. Think it is about 2 or 3 hours to the snow.

Ski fields are a longish day trip, depending on how much skiing you want to do (Thredbo or Perisher) and the weather on the day. Most Canberrans would go mid-week when the queues were shorter.

Most winter days in Canberra are bright and sunny. Colder than on the coast of course, but it's definitely not miserable and grey for weeks on end.
It's about a 2.5 hour drive to the snow, so you can do it in a day trip.

thanks everyone for that. Sounds even more perfect for me as I LOVE cold but dry winters.
