my family and i are hoping to apply for pr in aussie but i have arthritus i am capable of working and i am mobile but could this stop us when i have my medical? i self medicate so im not relying on the health service. any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance

yes hopefully it will improve with the warm weather but what i was wondering is could it be a barrier for us as they might class me as a burden on their health service and would i have to tell the docs at the medical if he/she doesn't ask

It's best to declare your condition on your medical, as false statements or omissions could cause your visa to be revoked in the future. Your condition will be assessed by the medical officer and it is at their discretion as to what constitutes a significant cost, apparantly the guideline has been removed but it used to be approx A$100,000 over ten years.

My advice would be;
Declare on medical form & discuss condition with designated doctor. He will assess your concerns from a medical / cost perspective & depending on his brief assesment will probably send you to a consultant to check out / verify.

Don't worry [easier said than done], DIMIA seem to be even handed it terms of medical conditions i.e a consultants reassurance generally ensures application success.

Athritis is a terrible affliction. If you've never lived in a warm climate for long, be ssured it does make a lot of difference, I'm told.

No it shouldn't.

My wife has arthritus and declared it but it wasn't a problem.

Be advised the medication here differs and we're having trouble getting the right mix. As you know it's the same thing in the UK, you have to go through a bit of trial and error. Well because the approved drugs differ you may have to go through the same process here. It's a pain as H can have nasty reactions to different mixes.

Mind you she can have a pretty nasty reaction to anything if she puts her mint to it. :scared:

thanks nibbs its good to know of someone who has the same problems and didnt get refused i feel a whole lot better now as for the meds i just take strong pain killers but not on a regular basis as im not that bad and im sure as some have said a warmer climate will or could make a diiference as when its cold it seems to be worse. im getting more confident each time i read the postings thanks to you all for your advice

It shouldnt be a problem (as stated before)
Make sure you declare it on the medical form and obtain aletter from your consultant indicating, prognosis, medication, if it is controlled etc.
