Nothing like letting a full charge go from a 9" barrel single handed! Great fun

Hubby sold his two before we left. We decided life was too short to have the stress of the paperwork. He didn't want to part with them but it made sense.

Shotguns are seriously dangerous firearms which seem to have this funny .08 "birdshot" persona to the general public. I've seen the damage that a relatively light 125 Grain frangible 12 gauge sabot can do at ~10m. Not something I would want to examine as a job.

Re: Can I take my shotgun?
Could this be the almost total lack of real legislation and control around shotgun ownership for "landowners" in the UK. From discussions I have had it seemed staggeringly unbalanced, given there is a ban on a pretty pitiful 9mm ball load yet the damage possible from a simple 12 Gauge 00 shot at 1600fps is simply obscene.
I've seen holes the size of your fist in "things". 12 bores at close range are devastating.

Either way, I would take a pat on the back and a beer at the pub over this conversation which is starting to move into the realms of that covered by discussions/arguments in other forums

Re: Can I take my shotgun?
9mm Ball vs 00 Shot at ~60m (200ft) I pretty sure the difference wouldn't be that massive, but you're the expert. Unless your talking about a +P pistol load or Hydrashock Sabot shell, the terminal energy imparted would be about equal? The difference being the channel damage imparted by the pistol rounds jacket expansion and flare, compared to the multiple point impact of 6 odd (guess) of the 8-10 00 ball shot. I would have thought that the penetration would be light-moderate, depending on the location of the wound.

The Shotgun importation looks like such a nightmare, that it's just not worth bothering with, unless you have a firearm that you're really attached to....
Sell them, get your licence in Australia and buy something new!
Just my opinion..... Only you know how much you want to keep something!

there's an RPG club in Lidcomb I believe ....
I agree with all that has been said about importing a rifle, I investigated it a few years ago , and in the end gave up, it's cheaper to pay the 120 Euro secure storage back in Ireland than try and bother import a rifle with optics.
The only information that may be of use, is that you have to join, or rather it is wise to join a gun club first, as they can advise you the best method and actually provide secure storage.
Mick Smiths gunshop near Central Station in Sydney are very helpful.
