Hi All

Can anyone explain this rego, do you have to have full insurance for a vehicle value over a certain amount?
Could i buy a sportsbike for $7000.00 and use rego?

Ps How dangerous are the road on the goldcoast for bikers?

Many thanks

Chris

The rego is the registration you pay once a year. Not sure how much a bike rego is but the car here in Vic is around $500.

Part of the rego goes to the TAC, its kinda like an insurance if you knock someone down maybe & TAC will pay medical bills.
If you wrote your bike off you would get nothing back so no you can't use rego as insurance, you need to insure it like you do in UK.

In Queensland rego is a bit like road tax but it includes CTP (basically a compulsory third party insurance). This ensures everyone has a basic insurance (would be an excellent idea for the UK too I reckon - what with all the uninsured drivers about!).
Anyhow you can pay like in the UK 6 months at a time or a year at a time. For cars the more cylinders you have the more $$$$$$$$$$$ you pay so for a big 8 cylindar 4 wheel drive you will be pay $800plus. Not sure for a motorbike - a lot less but in Queensland you have to register and pay registation on caravans, trailers and boats too so can get expensive if you are a two car, caravanning family!!!!!
Depends whether you are a Queensland or New SOuth Wales Gold Coaster - have no idea about NSW.

Happy motorcycling

Just to be totally clear....CTP is not a 'normal' insurance as such. If you only have CTP and you run your car/bike into another car neither of the vehicles are covered. Only the people within the vehicles for medical treatment etc...

Dont think that CTP is all you need to drive on the road. Although its not law to have either 3rd party or comprehensive insurance you would be stupid not to have it...
