Camping in Queensland
Hi All,
Can anyone recommend a nice place for a family of 4 to camp at this easter??
The kids are 2 and 4, so entertainment for them would be good
Oh, and not too far from Brisbane....

Re: Camping in Queensland
Fraser at easter is fairly overcrowded, think of brisbane freeway but on the beach, loads of delays getting on ferry etc, and loads of pissed up yobbos, Frasers worth seeing but easter is probably not the best time for a young family.
We went down to St marys falls near killarney (toowoomba way) last year, brill caravan park, but we had a little cabin, clean comfy and a heater which you would need in winter, they can get frost. No set entertainment for kids but amazing place, searching for possums, lizards, quite tame, roos, lizards, amazing waterfalls and walk but not too long a walk for little people, bird feeding kept our amused for ages, take some seed they sell it per tiny bag and you could easily get through a sack there are so many tame birds, all those lorikeet parroty things. At night we did the campfire, they have chopped wood you can buy really cheaply do a real camp fire and we took marshmallows. Best bit you miss most of the easter traffic, on the way out of the camp site we came down the mountain way, most amazing lookouts, your up in the sky with the clouds and when you get to the bottom there are herds of cows wandering about and you have to wait to drive on, great real country sort of experince if anyones into that sort of thing. Loads of 4wd track signs about that way too.

Byron Bay is worth considering?,stunning place/views,beaches are outstanding in my view.
We went there camping a few weeks ago,21/2-3hrs drive from Brisbane.took our 2 girls & our dogs,we had a fab time
Stayed at a massive campsite for 2 nites (dont remember wot its called, but if your interested i'll find out.) Took the car up to the lighthouse & walked around, the views were amazing! seen several groups of dolphins, stingrays, turtles etc.. swimming!
This was our first go at camping, built a roaring fire & toasted marshmallows & well fired potatoes !!!! oh & seen our very first tree frog when visiting the toilet on the site

Re: Camping in Queensland
We've been to Inskip Point the last couple of Easters, I concur with what J&R says Frazer is packed to the gunnel's at Easter, as is Inskip Point, I only go for the fishing as the Tuna are usually in abundance over Easter. If your new to camping in QLD parks the "Long Drop" dunnies may be a bit of an eye opener for you Most of the remote parks are quite basic with very few facilities just the odd dunny no showers or running water. The closest place to get water at Inskip is a run back into Rainbow Beach. We went up to 1770 three yrs ago & stayed in a very nice campsite up there, I think it was called Captain Cooks [everything else up there seems to be] Excellent facilities, hot showers and all mod cons.
For somewhere close to Brisbane how about Somerset Dam?

Re: Camping in Queensland
Is it possible to take dogs onto campsites? I would imagine the answer is no. If not, is there plenty of boarding kennels and are they reasonably priced?

Re: Camping in Queensland
We're first timers as well - heading to Tamborine the weekend after Easter (decided to go local(ish)! with powered site for first trip ) There's lots of sites you can take the dog. If you look on that epa website above, you can search for the ones that accept dogs. Didn't really think I was the camping type, but I'm thinking of the cheap weekends and holidays, we can take the dog as well and its a great way of seeing the country (well, Queensland anyway, to start with)

Re: Camping in Queensland
Plenty of kennels about - costs about $12-$15 a day to put a dog in. We have 3 dogs, so we take ours with us camping. Heading down to a dog friendly place near Coff's Harbour for Easter.

Thanks It's good to know that we'd be able to take them along with us.
