It is quite popular throughout Oz. My parents have a caravan and go away quite regularly. They also took it away fro 6 weeks when they did a 'north west' tour. My brother has also just bought a camper van. You'll fine loads of sites through the country. Also good for quick weekend getaways. Can't help with the shipping question though.

Its probably the best way to see OZ because there seems to be caravan parks or camping grounds in every OZ country town even the very small ones
and the cost is fairly cheap. You don't need to book in advance, just show up
and theres always a site available.

Try and look into some of the rules first - I can only speak for Qld, but they have all kinds of regulations on towing - how much you can tow behind what vehicle, and how many people you can have in the vehicle at a time.
Trailers are just as regulated, and the laws are enforced. Not quite the same as the UK where you just tow whatever you want and hope the gear stays on top of the trailer.....!
I suggest e-mailing somone like
