don't know if this helps but when I was speaking to nurses from cairns about my job they said trauma related to road traffic accidents was one of the major things they deal with on a daily basis.
I'm not in cairns yet but I always look at http://www.cairnspost.com.au/ to get an idea of what makes the news over there.
