Buying Medication in Oz
#1
Hi,
My father is visiting from the UK. Stupidly the Doctor in the UK failed to give him enough meds for his 2 month visit. Does anyone know if there is a way to claim for medication as its just cost us $165. We got the obligatory $35.60 refund on his doctor appointment at a local health centre but the Medicare lady said they don't refund meds.
Can anyone point us in the right direction?
Cheers
Olly

Not sure about the PBS as medicare woman was very vague about it. Cheers though, going to call the travel insurance. I am guessing though because there was "no medical emergency" (although buying the meds prevented one) means he won't get anything. Anyone got any experience of this?

I wouldn't have thought so as it wasn't an emergency. I'm not even sure if you'll get it back on the insurance. It could be thought that it was his mistake in not checking when he got the prescription. No harm in trying though.

you could claim for replacement meds, if you had lost them/forgotten them.... as they are essential for health.....
But you need to check the terms of the policy to make sure.
