Default buying a house on 457 visa

Hi all

We have just been to see a house that we are hoping to go ahead and buy, the stamp duty is paid by the builder as part of the deal and we have to complete by 20th December.

Thing is we are only just about to post our PR application. We have decided to go ahead with the purchase anyways, and just lose out on the FHBGrant as gettinG the stamp duty paid will be more than the FHBG anyways, and it defo wont come through in time for 20th December.

The house is new, does anyone know of any restrictions about buying while on a 457 visa???

thanks

Laura

Hi Laura
You do need to get permission from the FIRB www.firb.gov.au
You should ensure that your purchase is subject to getting approval from the FIRB.
We had no problems (bought an old house)
In QLD, you can claim your FHOG within 12 months after purchase if you purchase on a 457 and become a PR during that period.

BONUS!!! Thanks Andrew, does anyone know if you can do that in Melbourne too?? The extra money would really be a help and its such a shame to lose out on it for a matter of 12 weeks.....
Anyone?.......................???
