To the point that writers have recommended finding availability before buying miles!!

Am I right in assuming that you can only book 345 days in advance of your journey?
Does that mean that you should book your outbound and inbound journeys separately in order to get the offers you want.

Things changed dramatically about 6 months ago. LifeMiles used to show all kinds of nice availability on Singapore Airlines that other programs didn't offer, and it was generally pretty easy to book things with connection times less than 8 hours. Problem was, the website could also be very generous sometimes, not by their design(!) and a lot of people were gaming the system. Rather than fix it properly, they seemed to pretty much break the search function such that now it no longer returns lots of valid options. It might show flights separately but won't combine them in a perfectly valid connection. Unfortunately for us this particularly affects most connections in BKK where the itinerary involves Australia...and all the SQ is gone too.

So you'll never be able to pull up MEL-BKK-LHR or SYD-BKK-CDG. That doesn't mean it can't be booked...but phoning is not an option. They way to get something like that booked is to email their support function with screenshots of the flights available separately, your LM number, a contact number etc. Believe it or not this actually works. They will create the reservation (on hold for 72 hours) then contact you for payment...not a stress free process but many have done it successfully.

It's been so long that it's hard to imagine the website will ever be fixed properly.

Hi, it was Economy seats I found for that price, just searched bestjet.com
James went last year for $5000 but it seems a lot has changed in 12 months :-(

I guess I count ourselves lucky we went a couple of years ago first class with Thai, doesn't look like that will ever happen again

The American miles seems to have gone tits up, so following on from James' lead, I've joined Life miles.
However, I'm really interested in how Kevin found two business class tickets at $4700 for 2 people as I've the cheapest I can find is that each!!

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Ali

Yeah, we did Thai, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Thai on our round the world trip last year and it was great. I'm looking at going to Toronto in September if I can get a ticket with AA.

Looks like it's available on the 18th and the 21st. You could check this on united.com too for a simple point to point itin like this.

Buyer beware with TG, SYD and F...I'm sure it could be withdrawn at any time!

Another favour please from anyone with access to Lifemiles. How much would the taxes and charges be for SYD - BKK on 21 October in F for one person?

I still have 260000 US Airways / AA miles that expire in 6 months.

Is the best way to get them to renew to just but another 1000 for $30?

I have just booked BClass MAN - SYD return flights using our AA miles, that we purchased via US Airways on one of those great 100% extra free deals. Got good flights for march next year with Etihad. No First class available, but I am still delighted with BC. It was a very easy process. So would like to thank BCWorld and others for all the advise given on this thread. :)
