How do you work that out? Even allowing for airport and booking fees and the falling $ they shouldn't be more than $2650 a ticket.

For Business Class the miles themselves will cost US$2100 (A$2150 today) for 120,000 (assuming they are bought during 100% bonus offers), taxes and fees shouldn't add more than $500 at most. So four tickets will cost under $11,000.

Sorry, I meant to go back in and edit it, we went first class so the tickets are about $3500 each.
My bad, shoot me if you like

60k miles at full price is US$2257.50 (A$2310) - you have not included the 7.5% tax.

However if the poster was successful in finding seats out of DUB the taxes would be significantly less than a UK redemption. Maybe $250/pax would cover the booking fees and taxes. So the actual total would probably be closer to A$10.5k all in.

I think it's a moot point though...I don't see the four seats happening at that time of year.

you going from Sydney Jim?
I looked into that but the cost of getting from Brissie to Sydney with heavy suitcases was too much

Really? A saver fare on Virgin Australia includes one bag + one extra (46kg total) would be $60 on a return trip.

I did a search last night and 1 way is $135 per person, no $60 returns from Brisbane and as far as I'm aware there never has been

I think BCworld is saying that the extra luggage would be $60 return, not the flight......

We flew to Sydney from Brisbane in order to have first class seats on Thai (and to spend Easter with my wife's family) and paid (I think) about $18.50 (on Qantas) each way for each bag over the one checked bag each that is included in the ticket.

The price of baggage wasnt the issue, the cost per person was.

What is the procedure and cost to change my flights to go from Sydney rather than Brisbane?

having flown Thai to Europe both business (2 years ago) and first class (this year) I can categorically state that if you change to first class you will think the cost of flying to Sydney was worth it!

OK, cost aside, how easy is it to change the flights?
Do I call UA or Thai?

Neither. You call US. You'd have to pay $150pp. The agent might (probably will, seeing as you are changing your origin) insist that you cancel and re-book - in which case there is the chance of losing the sectors you want to keep.
