We live in Burpengary, this describes its facilities well.

Its ok, a little rough around the edges, we live in a rental on a new estate. My kids go to school in Narangba though, cause I liked the school there. We are building in Narangba cause it just feels a bit nicer, a bit posher for want of a better word.

Just stay away from Burpengary North, Burpengary South, Burpengary West and Burpengary central....and you'll be fine.

Without wanting to sound off, I reckon the first consideration for a lot of people moving to Australia is "where can we afford to buy a decent sized house"....and that kind of lays the foundation for the lifestyle they get in Australia.

Perhaps the original poster has other motives for wanting to move to Burpengary, but I suspect that for many people, its a case of:
1) go on realestate.com
2) put in max house price and min bedrooms
3) see what it spits out
4) have a look at where the suburbs are on the map.

Seriously though, I reckon you could do it in 30mins outside peak hours and with all the traffic lights on green.

Agreed, to be clear, I wasn't questioning the choice of Burpengary for negative reasons, I just thought it was an odd choice, even considering those potential factors you mentioned. At the end of the day there would be plenty of suburbs that would fit the profile you just set

Wow there are some very mixed view's on Burpengary, thanks to all for the info:thumbup::thumbup: Basically we were on holiday in Burleigh last year and had some friends who lived in Burpengary that we visited. Didnt not really get long enough there to find that much out about the place so i thought i would ask you lot. The problem we have is that we fly out end of Aug but not 100% where to try and base ourselves:confused::confused:

Its a tricky one mate. The majority of people will be like me - never stopped there, driven past it on the bruce highway, name sounds dodgy, has a bit of a dodgy reputation....and that's all we know. There's an old weighbridge there and a new housing estate right up close against the motorway. That's all I can tell you.

But then you will have a minority of people who actually live there and/or know the place, and these are the people you should listen to.....but you also have to take into account that people in Australia are generally quite biased about where they live. It seems that everyone, no matter where they live, seems to think that their suburb or street is the best... ;)

Well I would recommend that decide on a place, rent there for 6months to 1yr and consider it as a "temporary home". Then spend a year looking around, and decide what's best for you.


Or you could just do the "pot luck" method as many seem to do.....works for some, not for others.

Yes good idea.

When we first came over, we had our hearts set on North Lakes, thought it would be a great place.

We rented there for six months and during that time realized we did not like it so started looking around.

We ended up at Narangba due to the close proximity to the school, and bigger blocks.

But everyone has a different idea of what they want out of any area.
