Bunbury relocation.!!!

Hi,
heading out to bunbury at the end of october my husbands job is cental bunbury. my only concern of mine is my 15 year old daughter as she starts her last year at seconardy school in september and wont be here to take her exams. How does the examination process work in austrailia? would she be able too carry on her exams into a australian school.or would she have to go back a year and start again with her studies.

My first point of call would be to email the WA Education Office and present them with your story. That way they can offer the best advice, I am sure they understand the vagaries of the UK system and will be able to demonstrate some form of alignment to you...or not.

Re: Bunbury relocation.!!!

There is no equivalent here to GCSEs, instead the exams are sat in Year 12, with subjects started in Year 11, roughly equivalent to 'A' levels, the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).

For more info, don't bother with the WA Education Dept, see the Curriculum Council's website http://www.curriculum.wa.edu.au/internet/.

WACE programs: http://issuu.com/curriculum_council/...owFlipBtn=true

WACE manual: http://issuu.com/curriculum_council/...F%2Fskin.issuu. Page 80 has a section of recognition of prior learning and you can complete a "statement of equivalence" form if your child has already covered some of the material.

Hi helen,
Not really sure, think it's a good idea to contact the education dept like one of the other person said (sorry can't look back who said it).
Have you looked into schools yet, do you have any ideas? If u need any advice let me know as we live in Bunbury and my daughter is also 15.
Happy to help :)

Lisa :)

Re: Bunbury, bound

hey whats up with dalyellup :p i live there and actually really love it ....cheeky,
its a fairly new housing estate (i like new houses, each to their own), its only 10mins drive from bunbury CBD, has its own beach access, a lovely tuart forrest walk, a few local shops, schools, doctors etc.. a nice lakes family area where they have movies in the park, music in the park - with bands playing, carols in the park at christmas - theres a lot going on for families.
there is a new shopping development which looks really good on the plans, thats due to start being built early next year.

i thinks its great to take time while renting to travel all around the different suburbs checking out the different areas, and i'm sure you'll find somewhere you like :)

good luck

Hi lisa,
thanks for that. What school does your daughter go to and do you recommend it? Im really worried as Andys job starts nov in central bunbury and my daughter is in her last year at school in sept so she will be walking away with no qualifications, i have to decide whether to come at the end of october or hold back till she finishes in may. I have a son Harry who is 11 as well who starts senior school in sept but hes not a concern. I like new houses too and we will be looking at renting a 4 bed in dalyallup or australind
Be nice to meet you all when we get over Helen:)

my daughter goes to bunbury catholic college, it takes yr 8-12 - its a private school, but would deffinately recommend it. its about ten mins drive away, theres a bus service from dalyellup whch they can catch - although i always end up taking her in the mornings as shes never ready on time, but she does catch it home. once you have a student bus pass it costs 50c per journey.

when we first moved here, both my son and daughter went to ocean forest lutheran college, another private school which is located in dalyellup - it takes kindy through to year 12, my daughter didnt like it so we moved her to BCC (bunbury catholic college).
my son likes it at ocean forest, so we kept him there, hes made some really nice friends.

as you have probably noticed we are a bit religiously mucked up :rofl:

how does your daughter feel about moving over here?
do you know yet what year she will be in - my daughters birthday is end of nov 95, shes one of the younger ones in year 11 - the school years can be a bit mixed up as she knows children who are older than her in the year below???
its probably worth phoning the school direct and speak to them, thats how we found out what years they would be in.

yes it would be great to catch up when you come over, message me if you have anything you need to know before hand.

are you on facebook? i have some bunbury pics if you are!

lisa
