Hi
They don't do much solid plastering here I'm told by my rellies who are plasterers in Melbourne, most plastering is dry wall and jointing and external rendering. Its thin coat rendering mainly.
Don't worry about not having qualifications as the TRA are only interested in your years of training and work experience when you apply for a visa, we used Ian Harrop and he deals a lot with people like yourself who are skilled trades people. Hubbie applied as a roofer and were told u have to have at least 4 years training and 5 years work experience but go into as much detail as possible about each year of your training. This is really important. Ian will show you exactly how to get thro the skills part of the application and we thought it was well worth paying someone to show us how to do this.
Also bear in mind when you get here they are more interested in your years of training and work experience than formal qualifications. allow at least 6-8 weeks or more to get registered as a licesed plasterer once you arrive here as the local BSA want to see what experience you have, you can't easily get paid work without a license, so don't rely on getting paid work for 6-8 weeks

hope that helps,
Sherie

Gday and welcome.

The building trade in Oz falls into 2 strict categories.

1. jack of all trades, no qualifications, and not policed, but NOT a skillset within Dimias lists. So cannot apply on basis your old man can do tons of stuff.

2. Skilled individual trades. You have to appreciate, here, that if a guy lays concrete slabs for sheds, that is ALL he does. SUch that he will have diplomas and certs to say he is a shed concrete slab installer.

This is generic of all trades in Oz. In fact call a sparky to fix a light that was broken on your deck outside, and you require:

a. glazier to remove from site, glass shards from lamp fitting
b. carpenter to remove the damaged screws from timber walls.
c. safety cert to work on a 3 step stepladder.
d. finally a sparky to change the lightbulb.

Thats how frustratingly compartmentalised aussie trades are. This is reflected by DIMIA and certainly on skill scores and approval from TRA

So.

What you have to do, is play the system. Look at what the individual trades are, that your old man best fits into, albeit titled differently. And apply on that basis. Stick to the guidelines rigidly.

TRA do NOT want to know if he can lay bricks if hes a plasterer, or do EWI built up, scratch coats for Permarock based render systems, if he says his functional trade is drylining.

Get the picture.

Now once you have NARROWED this down, BOMBARD every prick hs worked for for 10 years plus, remember if no qualifications, he must show, 6 years trade histtory post his "fully trained period" termed as a deeming date...

To explain, if your old man aint got formals for his job, he has to prove sufficient work history. So many years are deemed as training, then he needs 6 years POST this date, termed as Post Training Experience. This date is his DEEMING date.

I could go on but wont lol

Steve good luck
