When I get back online, will the system detect the settings and prompt me to change whatever I need to change?

One thing to bear in mind when bringing your ADSL modem out here, you may have problems in getting ADSL in rural areas, and funnily, in newer housing developments.

In the latter case, this is the effect of Telstra cutting costs just before ADSL became popular and wiring up new developments on either a RIM or pair-gain system, which I believe is a higher-tech version of the old "party line".

Not only can these destroy your chances of getting ADSL, they also degrade the connection speed of standard modems

For those interested, check out this Whirlpool forum

For those afflicted by cheap arse Telstra you may be interested in www.unwired.com.au or www.iburst.com.au. Both new and have patchy coverage and currently Sydney is the only place although capital city rollouts are underway.
