This has been brought up many times and usually becomes a long winded argument. You are very unlikely to find a school that follows the British (or English presumably) curriculum simply because you are in Aus and similarly are unlikely to find an Aus school in England.

You will find schools and colleges that follow the International Baccelaurate (sp) though.

Thanks for your response! :huh: I find it sad that asking a strait forward question like that could turn into an argument!? As there are British schools all over the world! So why not in Aus??? My daughter attends one outside the UK at the moment. Im not interested in the ridicules politics over Btits and Ausys!!! Just in trying to keep education for my daughter as strait forward as possible. This is obviously not the right place to ask! ......Sorry :cool:

I know where you are coming from. My 2 older kids are in an International School in Malaysia following an American curriculum. So far the eldest has been in 3 different schools in 3 countries and he's only 7 :(

We are moving to Perth this summer but there doesn't seem to be an International School or British School. We will be moving on again in 2/3 years to another international posting so wanted to keep to the same curriculum to try and help the kids settle - however many of those on Britishexpats are moving to Australia permanently and may not appreciate your predicament of continually moving around the world.

Because you normally find British / American schools in non English speaking countries.

The Australian education system is a good one and the demand for a UK school is incredibly low. Think land mass of the USA with 20 million people in it and then of that 20 million only 1 million are British. Of that how many people have British kids migrating in at middle school age, maybe 25%.

Then of course what percentage of those would actually be prepared to pay for private school education. I'll guess less than half. So where would this bastion of pom educational excellence then be placed for this handful of kids in the landmass the size of the USA....

So why no British school ? Supply and demand. There is no demand and thus no supply.

I'm a British teacher in Australia - I can teach History, English, French and Citizenship - have also taught RE, but if you have any strong beliefs then best keep me and my somewhat sceptical views away from your progeny.
But I would be happy to teach those subjects to some baby-brits if you can match my UK teaching salary!

More seriously, I wonder if there are enough Brits in Australia now for there to be enough demand for a UK style school - I bet there are enough UK teachers out here. I also bet it would be possible to combine UK and Australian curriculums. How much financial support does the aussie govt give to schools? If it's a lot then I might look into filling this niche myself! :D
