Default British food - Brisbane

I have decided that I need to get my fix of english chocolate and goodies for christmas including after eight mints and roses. I was planning on ordering it all off the internet as I have found a few sites. I am actually going down to Brisbane at the weekend though and wondered if anyone knew of a specialist shop down there where I can get my fix.

There's one in the Bayside area in Birkdale. Can't remember the name of the shop though. I'll have a look and see if I can find it.

Found some info. I've never been in there (I'm Canadian) so I'm not sure what they've got.

I went to the English shop in Birkdale. They do have a wide range of chocolate although I don't recall seeing After Eight Mints or Roses (but I wasn't exactly looking for them). For a mid-size bar of Cadbury's chocolate it was $12.90 so a tad expensive!

All those 'English' shops are very expensive ...I went to the 'Britannia' shop in Cannington (Perth) to see if they had any Lancashire Tea.
They had one box...the cost? $11.75 for a box of 80 teabags
No way would I pay that, even if it is the nicest cuppa ...so she reduced it...to $8, being as it was the last one. I bought it as a treat, but never again at that price.
The same shop wanted $7.50 for Jaffa Cakes

I've seen after Eight Mints in the grocery store here. Are they not the same? I don't know what they're like in the UK but I think they're similar to the ones in Canada, although haven't tried them yet.

I agree about the shops. I personally normally wouldn't bother because of the price. But for a once a year Christmas treat why not? If it makes you happy, go for it!

Have you tried looking through the online Yellow Pages? There may be other shops in town. I only know of that one because it's about 10-15 min from my house. So there could be others.

There's a shop in the Myer centre (can't remember what it's called sorry) which is one of the main shopping centres in CBD (off Queen St Mall) that sells chocs and sweets from all around the world, mainly UK and US. It also does handmade chocs and stuff so if you search yellow pages you should find it under that. It's at the top of the escalators before you go down to Target.

I can't think of the name of the shop in the Myer Centre but it does have a lot of the things we all miss! There's also a shop at South Bank that sells english sweets. Sometimes it pays to read the wrappers in these shops though as quite often the chocolate (or marmite :curse: - I think they put TCP in it!!) is made in New Zealand and doesn't taste the same!

I'm pretty sure the Myer Centre one has After Eights.

What is this Lancashire Tea you speak of?

Surely it can't be as good as Yorkshire Tea??
