There are loads of technical threads on this (need to so a search) - but for the short non technical answer, make sure you have a multi region DVD player and you should be alright.

You will need a multi region DVD player. UK DVD's are region 2 coded, and Non Multi Regional DVD players brought in Australia, will only play Region 4 DVD's.
Video's have a similar system. You cannot play Video's brought in the USA, unless your Video player has NTSC installed.

Good luck

you could always purchase a player called a YAMADA (i have the 6600) but they are newer and better versions of the player these will play absolutely everything, weather its been downloaded from the net, copied in singapore you name it, it plays it.
