'British' areas in Perth

My girlfriend and I are heading to Perth for 3 weeks in a few days. We've applied for permanent residency on a 136modl and hope to be out there for good by Jan. The aim of this trip is to have a look at the city and it's suburbs and find a few places where we could potentially settle. We've both spent a year in Sydney but have never been to Perth.
I've read on another forum that there are certain areas of Perth with a high density of British living there. In some cases there are apparently areas which have front gardens with Union Jacks flying in them and Brits walking round in football shirts talking about how much better Tesco is than Coles or generally how great they think the Uk is.
Sorry if this offends anyone, but the thought of living in a area like that is an absolute nightmare for us. Part of the reason for moving to oz is to live in their culture, not in 'Britain in the sun'
Can anyone confirm whether this is true and if so where these areas are? It would just do us a favour because we would then know where to avoid!
cheers

I have family and friends dotted all over perth and I seen one Scottish flag on a house when I was there.
Only time I seen so many ex-pats was in the SHED at perth glory and it felt kinda nice.
But I never heard of areas like this or seen them.

In April we visited family in Mindarie (dubbed Lil britain)
Didn't see one single flag or Footy shirt! lots of brits tho, but all were really friendly and almost all had something positive to say about Oz, yeah you got the odd one having a moan about Oz verses Uk but you will get that anywhere.
Good luck on your travels,
Jay

Having been to Perth 3 times for a holiday, the only times I have seen this sort of manner was in the shed watching the Perth Glory and for 5 days at the WACA last December.
However, if there are such area's where the brits have completly taken over, then do let me know...certainly an area to avoid to live!

I think thats a bit of an extreme view and sounds like you are describing Benedorm in August. When you live away from your home country, family and friends and the familiarities, and plunge yourself into a different culture, some people need to gain a sense of familiarity, and you get that by associating with people who are from your culture.
Do you really think the ozzies are going to welcome you with open arms and be your bessie mate, don't think so, that takes time and years and in the mean time you get up, you go to work, you shop, you go to bed day in day out, and perhaps you might get sick of looking at the girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife cos your feeling pissed off or they are pissed off with the benality. Thats why brits make friends with brits cos we understand each other.

) are almost pom culture so proportionately you will see more poms in those places. (Aussies will be having a barbie at home where the beer is 80% cheaper or have done their shopping by 9am as the equivalent - again partly true but take with a pinch of salt)

I don't know of any suburbs like this. You will get the odd person with that attitude but they haven't all congregated in the same area.

The only night I went to the OB there was a huge brawl at the kebab shop: Pommies vs aboriginals

We have'nt sought any brits out to be matey with, we have mixed with loads of folk of every nationality and slowly but surely we have all gravitated together, and I say thank god for them.
