Depends what you define as nice weather. Both rain a lot, Brisbane is generally warmer than Sydney but if you aren't a fan of humidity then Brisbane is not for you.

Brisbane rains fewer days than any other capital.

for me, the criteria is more about whether you can work in the city and visit the beach on a work day without driving for hours..

Perth theres waves albeit not fantastic - trigg, cott, city etc

Brisbane and Melbourne you could just about surf on a work day if youre keen enough..

Having a CBD on the beach like Newcastle is the bomb. Body surfing in your lunch break on a scorcher - that is charmed

If in sydney, i'd go for dee why or curl curl and push bike/ferry to work.. how typical is that?? ha

if i couldnt go down the beach before work, then id be england.

When I first went to Brisbane, after six months living in Sydney, I found it boring, but that was in 1979 so it might be better now.

Still boring in Brisbane. Weather right now absolutely perfect but summers can be awful. Went to Sydney a few weeks ago and everyone in the street seemed really miserable. Mind you, they may have been up all night partying. In Brisbane, they'd be thrown out of the restaurants at 9 p.m.

well if you're going to start classifying Newcastle as a major city then surely Surfers Paradise and Caloundra would beat Newcastle?

I agree out in the suburbs can be boring and you will be chucked out by 9pm, especially early in the week.

On the bright side loads on in the inner city suburbs and obviously lots of restaurants, cafes, bars etc opening late in those places...
