RSL clubs are for retired service blokes. They are large, brightly light, full of pokies and sell cheap bland food. They have the atmosphere of Mars.

I travelled in all the Aussie states except WA. So I cannot really comment too much on Perth. Although most Aussies I know find Perth dull, so I assume that if I found the rest of the country boring, then Perth will be even worse.
Hey Kong

You are generalising and making assumptions about Perth then? I'm afraid that doesn't cut it with me. If you'd been that would be a different matter. So why do you comment on hearsay? Or comment about Perth at all?

Still don't get the RSL club thing. I've been to a few good clubs in Perth but passed that now as now 40!!

What I want is comments and honesty from this forum so in future I would appreciate it if you could just give your own experiences about Australia or Perth and not other peoples. Will this be possible?

I give my opinions on Australia, I think it is allright for a holiday perhaps even retirement.

However while I still crave a decent social life and some excitement , I would not live there.

To try to stop the flow of many a pound sterling into the hands of Aussies who do not think the POMS are fit for cleaning their dunnys.

Keep insulting me mate, this is funny, like being back at school.:D

Hey Kong

Yes you give your opinions on Oz that's fair enough. Please don't comment on things you have no experience or knowledge about ie Perth or anywhere else you aint been to.

You say you can't live there I assume you mean Perth. How do you know that if you aint been?

You create your own social life some make friends easy some don't, we're very sociable so we see no problems mixing and making new pals. Got family and friends in Perth before we get there so have ahead start.

Excitement? Done it all in this country. Want new excitement and adventure somewhere else ie Australia.

Now will you stop generalising?!!

Hey Kong

Don't stop posting your one sided negativism will you?. Whenever I get to feel uncertain about our plans to live in Perth from next year I search for your comments - that always cheers me up and confirms we have made the right choice:D :D
Nowhere could be as universally unattractive as you would have us all believe, so its comforting for me to read your very biased and mostly subjective portents of doom for all who dare to fulfil their plan to try to improve their lives.:p

Not many of us emigrate without doing a considerable amount of research both here and by visiting their intended destination. My wife and I have visited Perth 4 times in the last 3 years, and it is our intention to retire there mid next year. Some of us do not need a vibrant night life at the age of 60, we have rellies there and friends who emigrated some years ago, not to mention some new Ozzy friends we have made on those visits.

Remote sounds good to us - we can choose when we want to take a trip to the east, north or further afield - and travelling 4 or 5 hours in a plane is equivalent to us currently flying from Lincolnshire to the Canary Islands, or to Cyprus etc - not a problem.

Fortunately getting employment will not be an issue for us. But like other posters on this site we will not judge the standards of our future existance by what is "British" or what we have been used to. We will enjoy getting used to most of the differences-including some of those you have previously mentioned in a derogatory tone.

Some of us have imagination, perserverence, and intelligence: and can expect, tolerate and get some satisfaction from change even adversity.

So keep up the diatribe Kong, you don't know how much good you are doing for me and mine

Hey Walla

This is quite a coincidence - we are interested in buying in Kardinya or near there - but definitely in southern suburbs.
I retire July 4th 2005, house on market Febish 2005 and arrive Perth late July/August. We have relatives in Willerton and friends in Bull Creek and an aquaintance in Leeming! we also have relatives in Mosman Park and friends in Samson and Bicton - so you can see why we favour south of the river!

We should keep in touch and meet up when we get there to swop stories etc. You going in Sep this year ?- you lucky people!

Good luck and enjoy.

Peter
