Brisbane rustique shiek
Was looking at moving somewhere longer term and was on the phone to an agent who tells me this property is situated in the shailer park golden triangle. Are there any such golden triangles or is this agent talk?

Firstly I would ignore anything RE agents say.
Secondly go to some opens, in parts of brisbane now you will be getting 8/10 offers on one house the first weekend if its open, if it gets to the open. This is not RE agent talk, this is recent experience of turning over stuff down there.
Shailer park is not an area I know well, but its quite a way out, bits that have boomed Mt Gravatt, then areas like springwood and even daisy hill have gone up in price a lot compared to what they used to be. I would guess its getting tremors from the boom areas further in.
Know what you are buying with Watch renovators delights, shabby anything. Brisbane like most aussie cities was built on asbestos, and used right into the 1980's. It is nothing to see houses full of the stuff currently having the home handyman shower the stuff everywhere each weekend. I am very wary, many older aussies are like naahhh I grew up which it, whack bang...... Totally freaking scary when you get neighbours like that. it can be removed properly but its not cheap they will be quoting about 3 grand a room. A lot of the sheet, cladding, soffits, lino etc that contain asbestos does not really look like it to the untrained eye.
Go to some opens gauge the market, drive the drive in peak, check out the demographic at the local shopping centre saturday morning and again mid week.

I always thought Shailer Park was considered a bit of a shit hole but then I just drive past, never stopped and actually visited.

Shailer Park is one of the good areas of the larger Logan region, nice houses on good size blocks with decent facilities and relatively low crime rate. We lived there for around 10 years and apart from the termites and the occasional hoon it was a pleasant experience. Far enough away from shit holes like Woodridge and Kingston. Generally a nice place to live.

It's difficult, if you want bushy and interesting you really need to further out from the CBD and if you find something to fit the bill closer then the price can be prohibitive. I liked Shailer Park because you had the bush and the facilities and it was still commutable. It is a very nice area and in no way could be called a shit hole lol
