Brisbane CBD short-term rental

Hi folks.

I am looking for some advise and wondering if anyone can recommend a good short-term rental/holiday rental (furnished) near Brisbane CBD for 4 weeks in May 2010. It's me, my husband and 2yr old.

Looking for something that is not going to cost a bomb. My husband is going to be job hunting as such the need to be close to CBD.

Would appreciate any recommendations and or leads.

Thanks in advance.

How close is close? For some people that means walking distance, but others might see close as a 40 minute drive.

Hiya
You could try familyfriendlyhomes they have some furnished homes near the city, they arent the cheapest out there but sure are lovely houses.

You could also have a look at stayz.com as there are lots of furnished/holiday homes on there.

Hope this helps

30 minutes from CBD and close to a station preferably. Is it safe to assume that we should budget for 4 weeks of short-term for about 250-350 a week?

Hmmmm - best of luck :o We had a bit of a shock to see how expensive it all is when we were looking recently. We're flying at the end of June and also wanted max of 30 mins of Brissy CBD. Stayz.com were by far the best value and had the most choice but we found nothing under $650 a week. We also found takeabreak.com to be good. I also have to say that the cheaper ones in the range left a lot to be desired!! Needless to say, we ended up paying more than we originally planned.

$250-350/week won't get you a short-term furnished place 30 minutes from CBD. I know of a single mom with a young daughter renting an old unit, unfurnished, for $250/week, and she can't wait to get out of the lease. It is 30 minutes drive from CBD during non-peak hours, or 50 minutes by train.

Have a good at the SeqRents for some ideas:

There are some great places on offer here but I did wonder how often the site is updated. Some of the places looked fab but everyone that suited us wasn't available when we wanted it. Whenever we enquired about one, we tended to get the same response "sorry that one's not available, but what about this one?" - unfortunately these ones were too far away from the areas we were looking at. It definitely wasn't easy finding somewhere. :sneaky:

Rented via SEQRents two months ago and am very happy. Don't expect to get the same rates as a long term lease. All the risk in these transactions is with the landlord.

Is that pounds or dollars? If it's pounds, then you might be able to find something within your budget, but to be honest, even then it's a bit tight - if it's dollars, then I am afraid you are going to have to increase that budget by quite a bit. You are really looking at a minimum of about $600 to $650 a week for a short term let. Even for a long term let you'd be hard pushed to find something for $250 a week!!

Re: Brisbane CBD short-term rental

I am pretty much in the same boat as alzo. I have booked my flight and am landing in Brisbane on 2nd May, 2010 with no idea where I'll be staying (at this stage). I used the search function on BE and came up with the following:

http://www.balhouse.com/

The rates were in my budget ($50/ night if you stay at least one week) but the reviews on Trip Advisor and some other sites have completely put me off this place and I have decided to increase my budget by at least 50%.

I plan to come alone and will call my wife and 2 YO daughter in a couple of months once I have settled things. I know - before you even say it - this was not an easy decision but I'd rather do it this way. The visas have already been validated last year , so I have some flexibility with this.

I am looking for short-term furnished accomodation (say for 10 days to 2 weeks) starting 2nd May. This should ideally be in the CBD and close to restaurants/ cafes. My budget - $75/ night. Should I go back to my dreaming now?

Jokes apart, I am hoping that a couple of weeks would be sufficient for me to scout around and find a rental. My research also threw up the following:

http://www.auspitality.com.au/

Auspitality seems nice but I have no idea how far this is from the CBD, eating places and public transport links. Any inputs or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I also found something which is above my budget but might be helpful for alzo amongst others:

http://www.questbridgewater.com.au/

I don't know how far Kangaroo Point is from the CBD. Any pointers in the right direction from folks in the know other be very helpful!

Cheers!

Kangaroo Point is a short ferry ride from the CBD. Like 5 mins or less.

If Quest is within your budget, on Kangaroo Point, it's very good. The property is directly across from the Story Bridge Hotel so would be noisy until closing time unless you specify you want a room away from the hotel.

Sounds good, if I have to ferry to & fro the CBD multiple times during the day (say 4 times), how much should I budget for the ferry ride on a daily basis?

Thanks for the input, I'm quite tempted to forget about my original budget and go with Quest (albeit for lesser number of days) - their rooms are quite impressive!
