Re: Brisbane bound/ Flights Booked
I presume you aren't flying out on 16/5/05 - else you've missed your flight!!!
Seriously though, I hope you all enjoy yourselves.
We are off to Brisbane on a 4 year visa on 19 June 2005 via Singapore for a few nights.
My employer too has been very helpful and paying for flights and accommodation for a couple of weeks when we arrive.
Do you too go through periods of panic?!

AND yes we do go through periods of panic
The level of panic depends on the problem of the day
Do we sell all our furniture or ship?
Do we sell the house or rent?
Do I really want to earn less money?
What is this " Better Quality of Life" that everyone talks about and will we get it!!
Will I enjoy footie with the Broncos??
etc etc
Must be mad

Hi Gary
Like you we came over on a temp visa but for 2 years. My husbands employers who sponsered us were also brilliant! Paid for everything, visa appl, meds/x-rays, packers, flights, 6 wks apartment rental and 1 wk car rental on arrival good eh They have also just spondered us, as promised in advance, for our P.R. visa, we paid for everything this time of course, but good news is we are now P.R. Visa holders This particular type of company sponsered visa only took a total of 33 days from lodging the appl to receiving phone call approving it - quick wasn't it! Went thru a bit of trauma in those few weeks, more info needed etc. but all ok in the end and really chuffed
Sure its not that quick for that type of visa for everyone, but we wish you luck and hope your employer supports you as my husbands have supported him when your time comes to lodge that PR application!
Have a good flight only a few week away now eh!
Cheers

Computer engineer and Social worker eh! Our two sons are both hoping to get jobs in IT. They dont know what area they want to specialise in yet though. We have been given different points of view re demand for IT jobs but in our opinion, it totally depends on where you live in Australia and the need for your speciality skills/qualifications etc. Comp Eng is a wide subject is it not? Social worker, one of our friends who has just arrived in Cairns is a qualified Social Worker, dont know what she has experienced in this neck of the woods - again depends on where you are heading! Sure there are other people on here who could help you.
No tips on how to secure a job - you just need to keep browsing the net, approach a company via that source or wait til you get here and then start to look!
Good luck wherever you end up m8
Hope you and our two sons find something

Hi, we are heading for Brissie. Friends of ours have been there over two months now, and they have been keeping an eye out for us. There are quite a few computer jobs advetised. Your quite right computing is a broad area, and in demand so fingers crossed.
Not overly sure where Cairns is though, is it in the north brisbane? How are you finding it in oz, is it what you expected? We both have mixed feelings especially as neither of us have been there before.
Cheers

good luck with your big move.
We are arriving next July (2006) and are looking at Calamvale to live in, this being the suburbs south of Sunnybank Hills.
I take it you have been before? Any info on Sunnybank and the suburbs around?
