Mate - at 2030 at night you'll be out the airport by 930 and the car hire pickup is really outside the door of the airport like right outside the electric slidey doors as you walk out into the fresh air - Brissie airport is small- not heathrow by any means. And you'll be in brisbane city within 10 minutes drive down a straight dual-carriageway.

Airport hotels are not much cop - you'd be much better off with a cab into the city and stay at one of the city hotels if you really really really dont want to pick up the hire car.

wotif.com.au will show you some good hotel options in the city + probably near the airport too.

Taxi to the CBD is about 25$ or less. Its much nicer there than any hotel near the airport - they are really just cheap bed places not good for your first impression of brisbane ;-).

I agree, you are soon out of the airport. We had prebooked our car hire so that was quick and easy too. We had already booked short term accommodation in Spring Hill in the city so armed with the refedex map book from the hire company (an absolute godsend) we were on our way.

Hi mate, if your there for a night, then
Bowen Terrace international Accomodation is for you, listed in the rough guides etc as a hostel, but is more like a country B&B without the brekkie thrown in....This place is for a quiet home loving type, very chilled and quiet great after the flight.

You can get picked up for free at the airport, just make sure you email and tell them first as its slightl after hours

We have stayed in this place 5 times and love it, its a home away from home and the owners will help you with anything you ask about all up and down the gold and sunshne coast regarding areas etc. Its next to new farm and sydney st seacat terminals (2 min walk), is in zone 1 for the bus no.190 194 etc, and has great shops bars and cagfes just aroound the corner in the little village. If you want nightlife then fortitude valley is a 10 minute walk or 2 minute bus ride away (bi like a little camden).

The owners of the guest house are a lovely italian/aussie family and its relaxed with a beautiful new verandahs with a free bbq/kichen for you to use. Full brand new kitchen and probably pool now too. About £20 a night for the room and if you have a hire car booked for the next day, then jon(owner) will take you back to the airport (all of you) for $15(six quid for all).

He said he was thinking of a bar on the top deck for guests too.

Forget about characterless hotels, this is a guest house made from a HUGE old queenslander with all different types of rooms, different variations depending on what you want, ome ensuite, most have tv and fridge ALL ver clean and not dropping to bits as has just had most rooms refurbed.

Heres some reviews. It was having a little tart up in places when we were there in november, but i reckon its all finished now.

You wont be dissapointed, and you WILL go and stsay there again if you visit.

Remember he picks you up for free, and the return fee is 15 bucks!!

If you do book, tell them that alan and clare sent you, (yes they will remember us, its that sort of place, they rember your first name straight away and treat you like family, brilliant way to start your aussie adventure as we found everyone like that!!!!

just found their website. youll wish youd booked it for longer belive me, its what all hotels should be like.
