Default Brisbane

Have a meeting to go to on Thursday in Mackay so spending a few nights in Brisbane on the way back (Frid/Sat).

Any suggestions for places to see? Adults only not taking the kids.

Wife wants to see the Australia Zoo.

Staying in the Sebel suites in CBD? Any idea on time or distance from Brisbane airport? Restaurant recommendations etc

Default Re: Brisbane

for restaurants, I'd recommend:
isis (I like this one) on brunswick st in the valley.
belle epoque (another french one, nice decor in this one...) - again in the valley.

story bridge hotel is always good for a couple of beers - if you are walking around the eagle st pier area then catch one of the small ferries (not the big "citycats") to the other side, its a 5min walk from there. cab is easier though if you are not at eagle st in the first place...

If you're heading up to australia zoo, take a drive around the glasshouse mountains area, the scenery is very nice up that way...also, drive another 30-45mins northwest to the village of maleny, its a bit touristy, but its nice for a short stop and its a good drive up there.

the sebel is in the cbd, approx 20-25mins from the airport via taxi.

from the sebel take a walk over the river and take a look at the new gallery of modern art, its pretty impressive. there are a few restaurants around the southbank area too.

have a good trip!

Sebel suites are more or less right in the centre of the CBD approx 100yds from Queen Street Mall which is the main shoping precinct in the city . Ther's an Airtrain service which runs direct from both airport terminals to Central Station taking no more than 30 mins. From there its 10/15 mins walk to your hotel tops more or less all downbank from station. Nearest restaraunts in abundance would be the Mall itself or head to Eagle Street Pier which has several restaraunts and bars in the vicinity. You should find all the relevant info on Aussie zoo on this link including travel http://www.australiazoo.com/ Theres the Botanical gardens nearby ,an inner city lagoon (southbank across the river )if by some miracle its warm and sunny, a nice city cat ferry ride available up & down river and also local museums over that way. Have a nice trip buddyOh yes horse racing is usually available every Saturday at either Doomben or Eagle Farm if thats for ya or The Broncos are playing The Rabbitos friday night at suncorp if that's your cup of tea !

There's a bus from Brisbane which takes you to and back from the Zoo:

http://www.australiazoo.com.au/visit...e/#travelcoach

Needs to be booked though.

If it's not too late, sod Brisbane, stay in Caloundra and get around the Sunshine Coast....

I'd recommend the Summit restaurant at Mt Cootha. Food is very good and the view over the whole of Brisbane is absolutely superb. It's about a 10 minute taxi ride from CBD but well worth it - and Mt Cootha is pretty much one of the 'must see' visitor points of Brisbane.

I would agree with the view from Summit, but save your money OP and just go to the cafe next door. I have eaten at the Summit a few times and it has been awful every time. Still, the view is lovely!

Go and check out Alchemy (great views and food but pricey) or Siana (great views, great cocktails, 30 something hang out) both in the city or Isis like Mark mentioned which is in the valley.

I've never been but this thread is the first time I've ever heard anything positive said about the food at The Summit!

Well *I've* had a good feed at Summit on a couple of occasions anyway!

another good eatery would be "Mariosarte" in Toowong. Great little place - always busy and without so much of the pretencious crap that I seem to come across in the Valley or riverside CBD

I'd recommend the ferry sightseeing trip, very interesting to compare the waterways up there with Sydney and Melbourne, Seems a lot more private dwellings with nice big balconies close to the river. CBD, seems very quiet in comparison though. Still nice to see something different.
