On the forum they are referred to as trolls. Mostly they just want to cause trouble and stir the Mods up. Mostly they are totally bored and it might be a good excuse to get their jollies.

Re: In Brisbane on 176 Visa
Hey,
Just out of curiosity im curious what line of work the OP is in and how long it took to have that visa approved? Im also guessing you took out your own health coverage?
Im Canadian but I was also looking at getting a 176 Visa and moving to Brisbane.
Cheers,

There are loads of threads on here about private health cover. Do a search and you'll find them. You can also just google "private health cover" and you'll find loads of sites.

My bad, I was thinking the 176 Visa was state sponsored where your not covered for medicare at all until you recieve your PR after a year or two.
No dental is covered as a part of Medicare though is there?
Thanks,

Once you arrive in Australia on a PR visa you are automatically entitled to Medicare. It's sort of like OHIP only it's a national scheme. Not everyone takes out private coverage but some do. Private health here is not the same as having benefits there. Here it means you can choose which specialist you see should you need one, you can usually get things done quicker (unless it's an emergency, then Medicare is just as quick) some dental and optical etc are partially paid. Prescriptions are as a rule not covered but there may be plans out there that do cover them.

There's a teens dental thingy but no regular guy cover. Dentists here cost way less than in TO. My daughter had a tooth broken at school and it was only $120 for them to fix it so you would never know it's a cap. Kids checkups are usually about $100 each for cleaning, same as we used to pay in Burlington.
