Brickies
Just a quick question, when you arrived in aus and started to look for work did you have to supply a full cv and proof of qualifications or is it basically the same as uk, in that you get a start and if your any good you keep your job.

Re: Brickies
For my hubby it was just the same as in UK, ie you start and they see what you can do. You will need a red card though in Melbourne.

I think it depends on which company you apply at, But most are like UK. You will need your Health & Safety card. Its green in SA and takes about 1/2 a day to get. $120

Yes, my OH just rang up jobs in the paper and went along, but for NSW you need a green card (a day's course you need to do for health and safety which costs around $120), they won't let you on site without it.
He earns around $30 an hour before tax in case you were wondering. They get paid fornightly and it works out around $800 per week after tax! They work from 7am until 3am if there is no overtime and sometimes on Saturday mornings 7am until around 1pm.
Cheers

Re: Brickies
He hasn't got a licence and its a hassle to get one. He is only bricklayer until something else comes up as its doing his back in and he's got RSI in his elbow!!
He was working for himself doing general building work at home, loft conversions, extensions etc but you need to go back to college to get your licence to do that here and it takes months, so he's not going to do that at the moment!

Hi
My other half is thinking of re training as a bricklayer, would it be worth him doing the training before he leaves the uk or when he arrives in oz, we are moving to Qld, and could anyone recommend a course, is it worth doing the NVQ? or is there another option.
Any advice would be great
Thanks
