Singapore is a major trading hub, it's got a huge port where the shipping companies do their trade. So any ship on it's way to the UK from China can pull in there offload and onload some freight, and then also drop off some containers of clothes etc, and go on it's way. The actual cost of transport would be relativly cheap.
